The Sugar Act
- time period of 1764,
-riots were happening due to the conflicts involving sugar.
-In order to purchase sugar, a person would have to pay 3 pence a gallon!
- getting out of control and the people of the town could not afford it.
=due to this act, more foreign goods were being taxed such as coffee, wines, and lumbar and iron.
-the colonial economy had to reduce their markets so they could continue to sell.

-The Stamp Act started in March of 1765.
-Distributed in England.
-This act was set up in order to see if a person paid a tax on any type of printing matter by there being a stamp present on that piece of paper.
-If a person did not have a stamp, they would seized, fined, and thrown in jail.
-Some agreed with this, and others did not.
-Protests on The Stamp Act started.
-Ben Franklin stepped in and got rid of The Stamp Act.

Townshend Acts-Time period of 1767.
-Passed by the Parliament of Great Britain. -Purpose: to try to raise money in the colonies. -Ended up putting taxes on imported goods. -Officers received 1/3 of the proceeds when a ship was seized or sold. -Colonists wanted to rebel to this act. -Refusal of British imported goods. -British exports to the colonies ended up falling to a small 40%. |
